Packing a lunch for your children, yourself or your partner is a great way to save money and have some control over what your family is going to be eating every day.
Unfortunately, lots of the convenient ‘single serve’ foods that are so easy to pack into lunch boxes come in single use plastic wrapping….!!! Things like muesli bars, small crisp packets, pots of yoghurt, treats and snacks all have individual packaging, aswell as the giant bag or box that all the little items came in!!
What Can I Do…??
Quite often, there’s a bulk alternative to the snack packs. If you like a portion of crisps at lunchtime, consider buying one large packet and portioning it out. This will save all of those small packets. The same goes for raisins and even chocolate and you’ll find that buying things this way is usually cheaper.
Go the Extra Mile
Home baking is a great addition to your family’s lunch boxes. Making your own muesli bars, muffins or cookies will save on individual packaging. Plus, you can choose healthier recipes with less sugar in them and cook what your family likes to eat. Home baking always tastes better anyway….!!
